All American Grilled Cheddar Burger

Watch the cheese melt into the meat as it cooks on the grill!  The All American Grilled Cheddar Burger is rich, cheesy and juicy!

When summer arrives in Texas, Texans start dusting off the outdoor grills!  I'm not really sure what is about the sweltering heat and 100% humidity that makes us want to go outside and stand around an open fire but that's what happens.

I guess there is something about freshly cut grass and a beautiful day that just makes us want to be outside, regardless of the heat.

When you take the time to fire up the grill, charcoal or gas, you may as well make the most of it.  Go big or stay or home!  In other words put some meat on that thing and eat on it for a few days.

So, here is my All American Grilled Cheddar Burger...

Grilled Burger Ingredients:

1 Lb 80/20 Ground Meat
1/2 Pound Ground Pork
1/4 Cup of my All Purpose Seasoning
1/2 Cup BBQ Sauce - Try my Moonshine BBQ Sauce
1 Tbl Spn Worcestershire Sauce
1 Cup finely cubed cheddar cheese

Preparation and Instructions:

Mix the ground meat and ground pork very well.  Incorporate the other ingredients and mix very well making sure that the cheese doesn't clump together in one area.

Grab a handful of the mixture and gently shape it into an oval.  Try not to smash it and pound on it.  Remember there is shrinkage so make them large.

Prepare the grill by heating one side for direct cooking and leaving room on the grill for indirect cooking.

Once the grill is very hot, place the burgers grill directly over the fire.  Stay near by with a spatula.  If the grill flares up, tend to it and move the meat away from the fire to keep it from scorching.  Try to keep the burgers over the direct heat for about 2 minutes.  Then flip them keeping them over the heat for about another 2 minutes.  This fuses the meat together and keep the burgers from falling apart.

Move the burgers to the side of the grill without the heat.  Close the lid and let them cook for about 10 to 12 minutes.  Medium is a good place to be with them.  It maintains juiciness while cooking thoroughly.

I like to throw some sausage on as well and let it cook on top of the burgers to enhance the flavor that much more.

I hope that you try my All American Cheddar Burgers.  I think you'll love them!
